Help for Job Seekers

OUT OF WORK ?

WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND A JOB ?

  • Not enough jobs being created
  • New technology replacing man power
  • UK manufacturing hit by overseas competition
  • Discrimination   -    sex, age, race
  • Some organisations don't value experience and prefer to employ a younger / cheaper person

BEEN OUT OF WORK FOR TOO LONG ?

  • If you are unable to find a job quickly, the rot can set in without you even realising it.
  • Your confidence wanes
  • You are unable to motivate yourself
  • You overlook your attributes (skills, experience and qualities)
  • It becomes more difficult to explain gaps of long term unemployment on application forms

WHAT POSITIVE STEPS CAN YOU TAKE
  • Don't feel a failure. You are not alone, unemployment is an economic problem that affects millions of people.
  • Don't opt to stay unemployed waiting for that "Perfect Job" as it may never come along.
  • Find some other suitable work, but continue to look for your "Ideal Job".
  • Don't sit around doing nothing, get the skills and qualifications in order to give you an advantage at the job interview.   There are many training courses for the unemployed that are FREE.
  • Think about voluntary work, especially if it connects to something your interested in.  For some people voluntary work leads to a complete change of career.
WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE JUST ANY JOB ?
  • You don't know where it might lead to
  • No need to explain long gaps of unemployment
  • When employed, you can negotiate a better salary
  • It may be poorly paid, but they could offer other benefits, such as offering to pay for training.
