Open and Closed Questions
When a closed question is asked, the reply is usually short (eg "yes" or "not really").
An open-ended question is one that allows the interviewee an opportunity to give us a wider response. Some questions are closed but an experienced interviewee can answer them and enlarge on their answer - for example:
Q Did you meet your sales target last year?
A No - we were unable to meet our target due to our local office being closed for 5 months for refurbishment.
